They can also involve tragic circumstances where one or both parents have been killed or seriously injured and they are unable to currently care for their child. Whichever type of child a foster family gets, there is plenty of extra attention and love that must be handed out. These children need to feel at home, and that they are accepted. This can be a challenging task for any parent and their own children. It takes a very special family to be a foster family. Foster children can be placed in a home for a short period of time or an extended period depending on the circumstances. With a lot of work and encouragement children that stay for a while can learn to be a valued family member and begin to have a normal life.
