Foster Families Do Matter - 2

...They quickly build distrust and may even act out horribly in an attempt to prove they are not welcome and will be moved once again.

If you are considering becoming a foster family there are many things you need to consider. You must quite literally be available 24/7. You must also be willing to expose your own children to many uncertainties that come with some of these children. You must also be sure that you have the energy and capacity to take on this daunting challenge.

For those of you that have had children placed in foster care I'm sure you appreciated the help and support at your time of crisis. Foster families are not intended to replace the natural family but rather to help and assist in any way possible to create an environment where a child can return.

Sometimes children that are placed in foster families are eventually placed up for adoption, and quite often the foster family will apply to become the adopted parents. This is especially true if a child has spent a long period of time with the family and a deep bond has developed.

Fostering can be very hard on the foster parents. Foster families know that the arrangements are only temporarily. But still as they develop a relationship with the children it can be very difficult to see them go. This is something that each foster family handles differently and the foster care system does have councilors available to help with the tradition.

Foster families are very important to our society and they are very much needed. In fact most areas have a shortage of foster families. To become a foster family requires in depth screening and training. This is one reason there are not enough families available, however that screening and training guarantees the best environment for the children.

Too often foster families go unrecognized for their unsacrificing work and care to these children in need.

Your kids will be glad once they are grown that you used the information and resources available to you while they were little. They will know that you did your best with their childcare, and be very appreciative of it as well. You will be glad that you learned more about foster families.
